Reciprocal Pronoun: যেসব pronoun দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি বা প্রাণীর মধ্যে পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক বুঝায়, তাদেরকে Reciprocal pronoun বলে। যেমন— each other, one another হলো Reciprocal pronoun.

যেসব Pronoun দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তির মধ্যে পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক বা কোনো কাজ আদান-প্রদান করা বোঝায়, তাদের Reciprocal Pronoun বলে। ইংরেজিতে Reciprocal Pronoun মাত্র দুইটি: Each other এবং One another।

ক) ব্যবহারের সীমাবদ্ধতা: Reciprocal Pronoun কখনোই বাক্যের Subject হিসেবে বসতে পারে না। এরা সবসময় বাক্যের Object (Verb বা Preposition-এর পরে) হিসেবে বসে।

• Incorrect: Each other went there.

• Correct: They helped each other.

খ) Possessive রূপ: প্রয়োজনভেদে Reciprocal Pronoun-এর সাথে Apostrophe ('s) যোগ করে এর Possessive রূপ তৈরি করা যায়।

• Example: They held each other's hands.

• Example: They are interested in one another's ideas.

গ) আধুনিক ইংরেজি ও প্রথাগত ব্যাকরণের পার্থক্য: প্রথাগত ব্যাকরণে 'দুই' এবং 'দুইয়ের অধিক' এর জন্য আলাদা নিয়ম থাকলেও আধুনিক ইংরেজিতে অনেক সময় 'Each other' সব ক্ষেত্রেই ব্যবহৃত হয়। তবে প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে প্রথাগত নিয়ম (২ জন = Each other, ২+ জন = One another) অনুসরণ করাটাই সবচেয়ে নিরাপদ।

৩. সঠিক প্রয়োগ (Correct vs Incorrect):

• Incorrect: The three sisters love each other.

• Correct: The three sisters love one another. (যেহেতু তিনজনের কথা বলা হয়েছে)

• Incorrect: Romeo and Juliet loved one another.

• Correct: Romeo and Juliet loved each other. (যেহেতু দুইজনের কথা বলা হয়েছে)

• Incorrect: They are talking with each other's.

• Correct: They are talking with each other. (প্রয়োজন ছাড়া 's' বসবে না)
